We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of this Land, the Dharug people, and their continued connection to Country.
We pay our respects to Elders from yesterday to tomorrow.
We extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples of Blacktown City where the flannel flowers still grow proud and strong.
We will walk softly on this land and open our hearts to Country as the Dharug people have for tens of thousands of years.

Name/TitleUntitled (Feathered Forms)
About this object'Untitled (Feathered Forms)' was made when Celia Featherstone first moved to the lower Blue Mountains and was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, and whilst studying drawing and printmaking at Kingswood TAFE. The artwork is featured in the monograph, ‘Unfolding the Art of Celia Featherstone’, published 2023.
Preliminary sketches appear in her diaries – from the ‘Fantastic Creatures’ series. The artwork was created alongside her ‘Icarus’ installation, which was a finalist in the Fisher’s Ghost Art Award in 2007. The artwork is reflective of her experimental style at the time and a dramatic shift from the artist’s colourful flower paintings.
Celia Featherstone has lived and practiced in the greater western Sydney area for the last 18 years. She is a former Blacktown City Art Prize finalist (2008) and regularly attended the Blacktown Arts’ Open Studio program.
She recently participated in the ‘From the Studio’ exhibitions at the Max Webber Library, Dennis Johnson Library and The Leo Kelly Blacktown Arts Centre; and was a finalist in the Access Artybald Prize at Front Up Studios, Seven Hills, and at The Leo Kelly Blacktown Arts Centre in 2022.
Celia Featherstone’s significant artist monograph was launched at The Leo Kelly Blacktown Arts Centre on 26 August 2023.
Celia Featherstone studied numerous art courses at Western Sydney TAFE from 2006 to 2017 and established bonds with local artists, curators and community members, and she has been a mentor to many art students. She has participated in workshops, events and courses throughout Blacktown, Parramatta, Penrith and the lower Blue Mountains – including the MCA’s recent Skirts project with artist Linda Brescia and Senior Curator Pedro De Almeida.
