We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of this Land, the Dharug people, and their continued connection to Country.
We pay our respects to Elders from yesterday to tomorrow.
We extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples of Blacktown City where the flannel flowers still grow proud and strong.
We will walk softly on this land and open our hearts to Country as the Dharug people have for tens of thousands of years.

Name/TitleMoon Jar
About this objectShin Hye Choi’s signature creation, Moon Jar, is inspired by the moon’s beauty and symbolises calmness and purity. Shin Hye embraces the traditional 18th century Korean technique of crafting jars by fusing two identically sized bowls while adding a unique twist. She highlights the joinery with a gold line, transforming the seam into a distinctive pattern. The jar’s textured surface combines coloured clay and porcelain, and shows her innovative approach to ceramics. Despite the artwork’s asymmetry, which is a result of the joining process and the natural effects of gravity, Shin Hye values the beauty in its imperfection.
Moon Jar not only pays respect to Shin Hye’s cultural heritage but also challenges our perceptions of beauty, inviting us to find elegance in the natural flaws and the craftsmanship in the work. Shin Hye’s ceramics demonstrate her belief in the profound beauty of imperfection and the enduring value of traditional craftsmanship in contemporary art practice.
