Western Sydney Fashion Festival 2022

“Calling all fashion lovers!

Founded in 2015 by local community as a counter-movement against mainstream fashion runways, the Western Sydney Fashion Festival comes to Blacktown in 2022.

Showcasing new pieces by local designers while increasing accessibility and inclusion within Sydney’s fashion industry, Western Sydney Fashion Festival is a celebration of Western Sydney’s cultural diversity and multidisciplinary creative talent.

Featuring an array of local talent including Armando, GTAB, Lakshmi Bee and many more.

A special screening of the POV Digital Docuseries by Western Sydney Fashion Festival will screen prior to the runway. This ‘in-conversation’ series will unravel the personal experience of select designers from the beginnings of their design journey through to the aftermath of Covid.

Artists

Armando by Armando Crisostomo

Featured in Vogue Australia and on PEDESTRIAN.TV, this brand’s purpose is to empower men to freely choose what they wear without fear, judgment or the pressure to conform to binary gender expectations. Born in the Philippines, founder Armando Crisostomo tried his hand at nursing, IT and a Bachelor of Business and Commerce before eventually earning a Bachelor of Branded Fashion to realise his lifelong dream of designing clothing.

GTAB by Ginan Tabbouch

Bankstown-based outfit GTAB has received some mainstream success with showings at Sydney’s Fashion Week. Driven by the stories of Western Sydney youth, Ginan Tabbouch’s collections pull inspiration from rap songs by the West’s young people that start conversations about domestic violence, racial profiling and youth homelessness.

Lakshmi Bee

Welcome to Lakshmi Bee, created by mother and daughter duo Lakshmi and Susan Gowda, who are on a mission to heal the planet through sustainable and one-of-a-kind art, couture and home décor. This brand devotes months to infusing each piece with elegance, luxury and style inspired across multiple eras and building beauty from ashes in a celebration of God’s living creation as well as the designers’ own multicultural heritage.

Thuy Nguyen

Western Sydney-based curator and documentary filmmaker who is passionate about showcasing the West’s multimedia talent, particularly film, fashion and live/online events, workshops and Western Sydney Fashion Festival, an annual runway show featuring diverse talent from all over Western Sydney.

Public Island Society

Hints of designer Iki Haangana’s Polynesian background and offbeat vibrancy bridge the worlds of high-end fashion and streetwear. Public Island’s styles have appeared in music videos, was recently showcased at The Sydney Aquarium and is the recipient of the 2020 Pacific International Runway Established Fashion Designer Award.

Ruth Fattal Couture

Established in 2012, awarded 2021 Designer of The Year and renowned for classic, timeless bespoke designs, Australian bridal and eveningwear atelier Ruth Fattal Haute Couture creates one-of-a-kind looks that radiate sophistication. Their New Beginnings Collection, crafted from an array of luxurious fabrics, embellishments and delicate laces is a whimsical nudge to the old world with subtle biblical symbolism, bold statements and ornate musings.

Modest Fashion Outlet

Established and run by Afghan women with firsthand experience of being refugees and resettling in Australia, Modest Fashion Outlet is a community-oriented, social impact -driven Australian fashion label providing training and employment opportunities to newly arrived refugee women.

Marky Duong

Marky Duong, Founder and Creative Director of Marky Atelier, migrated from Vietnam to Australia in 2004. He settled in Cabramatta and graduated from Billy Blue College of Design in 2013. Duong’s style is timeless and a true reflection of his love for fashion.

Client interest in his couture pieces gave Duong the confidence to launch Marky Atelier in 2021 – a hybrid brand combining high-end design and ready to wear apparel. Through his brand he raises awareness for mental health and aims to promote healing and understanding. His work has also been featured in Elle and Harper’s Bazaar Vietnam.
