Unspoken

by beth sorensen

During times of uncertainty a lot goes unsaid.

In collaboration with opnsrc.co x meik we present ‘unspoken’, a cinematic take on live streaming during this period of lockdown.

Looking to bring awareness to all that’s around us, together we aim to shine light on local talent letting their art and work speak for itself.

Experience intimate, quality live music sessions recorded on a roving camera, capturing a suite of original performers from Blacktown and western Sydney. Music genres include hip hop, pop, punk-rock, R’n’B with DJs and B-Boys.

Discover a new artist, hear a new song that momentarily transports you beyond the confines of your living space, and connect with other artists and the youth community via the Q + A.

Session five:

Mel Bailey

Mel Bailey is a Filipina-Australian artist who focuses on expressing herself through a multitude of Neo-Soul, Hip Hop and Jazz. After releasing her debut EP in early 2018 ‘No Doubt, Just Questions.’ Mel Bailey ventured through the Americas for several months on a journey of self discovery and empowerment. Her experiences and exposure to different musical genres, cultures and nature, embraced and channelled her artistry, which she has embodied in her new EP ‘March’ scheduled for release in 2020. Mel Bailey’s sonics are uniquely hers, with lush jazz melodies over juxtaposition instrumentals heavily driven by her 6 piece band.

Since 2017, Mel Bailey has been no stranger to the Australian R’n’B & Hip Hop movement, as her renowned honeyed vocals and jazz-tinted nuances have collaborated with fellow Australian artists, Kwame, Phil Fresh & Gibrillah. However, in 2019, she was determined to fine-tune her very own sound with her band and as a result has seen Mel Bailey’s name support the likes of  The Goods, Tasman Keith, Bin Juice, Papaya Tree, & Poolroom..

Mel Bailey’s undeniable sonic presence and power will soon be realised. It’s looking like a big 2020 ahead.
