leaking shield, 2017
Pigment, graphite, chalk and acrylic on canvas
This found piece of hessian contains memories within its aged stains; it has a history. It could be a piece of discarded army equipment, used for camping. An object like this does not need much reworking – it resonates with meaning. There is an image of a shield form, leaking through onto the material, and a formation of black circles beneath, like punctuation marks or bullet holes.
