Expressive Writing Workshop

Saturday 31 October & 7 November 2020, 10 am – 1 pm

Create short, edgy blackout poems and longer forms of expressive non-fiction in this fun, hands-on workshop with Priyanka Bromhead.

Blackout poems are created from the pages of old books, magazines and newspapers. Words are removed or ‘blacked-out’, creating new pieces of writing and visual poetry.

Expressive non-fiction taps into experiences of the everyday, and participants will have the chance to write their own piece of flash non-fiction, a style which often includes mini essays and memoirs. No writing experience required!

Cost: $25 per session
Materials: Materials will be provided, but if you have an old book you’d like to use for blackout poetry, please bring it along. Please also bring a lined workbook, lead pencil and pens to write.

We aim to make all of our activities accessible to everyone. Local residents who find the workshop price unaffordable can email Blacktown Arts: artscentre@blacktown.nsw.gov.au

Facilitator: Priyanka Bromhead
Priyanka is an Eela Thamizh woman who has lived and worked on Darug country her whole life. She is a multidisciplinary artist and educator who uses poetry, prose and non-fiction to examine human experiences at the intersections of faith, race, gender and class.
