Friday 31 July – Friday 28 August 2020
The Leo Kelly Blacktown Arts Centre

During the COVID-19 lockdown, Blacktown Arts created a Facebook group for local creatives to connect, create, get support  and find inspiration. Prior to lockdown, many of the group’s members regularly attended open studio workshops at  The Leo Kelly Blacktown Arts Centre, where they worked on their own artistic projects.

Members of the Facebook group were invited to create a work that represented their daily experience in isolation. They  were sent a small ply panel to work with, and were asked to respond to their view while at home: a window onto the garden, the TV, the kitchen sink, the pile of laundry, whatever they saw each day. They could approach the project how they saw fit: draw, paint, collage, any medium, and all levels and ages were welcome to participate.

The result is View From Here, an exhibition showcasing how Blacktown does isolation via 58 artworks created by the community.

We’re staying open until 7 pm every Thursday in August to give you more time to see View From Here.
