Drawing Blacktown | Peter Rush

by beth sorensen

‘…with my compulsion to draw, it captures the moments of everyday life’.

With an interest in the urban environment, Sydney-based artist Peter Rush sketches familiar places and everyday life in an insightful way.

An architect by trade, Rush works with materials that range from pen and paper to used cereal boxes to capture the mood, expression and texture of city streets.

His exhibition Drawing Blacktown is the result of a 2019 residency at Blacktown Arts’ Main Street studios. During his residency, Rush spent many weeks sketching around Main St, Blacktown.

Locals will know and recognise many buildings, shops, signs and locations in Rush’s art, but may also see things in a new light thanks to his dynamic style.

Drawing Blacktown is at The Leo Kelly Blacktown Arts Centre from Tuesday 13 October to Wednesday 11 November 2020. Select works will be available for purchase.

To coincide with this exhibition, Peter Rush is running urban sketching workshops on 17 and 24 October 2020. Learn more here.
