Films at the Underpass is a collaborative film program commissioned by FUNPARK and Blacktown Arts, curated by Vonne Patiag, a local Blacktown filmmaker who has previously curated Blacktown Shorts (2019), Western Sydney Shorts (2020) Migration Stories (2021) and Best of Blacktown(2022) for Blacktown Arts.

Through an open call out to filmmakers in Mt Druitt, Films at the Underpass was curated by Patiag and premiered as part of FUNPARK 2022. The program now comes to Blacktown Arts for a two-week digital season for the winter school holidays.

Bios

Len Hurley
Len Hurley gets his inspiration from everywhere. He is a photographer, videographer and digital artist. He has won prizes and awards over time and his animations are what make him distinct.

Daisy Montalvo
As a filmmaker, Daisy Montalvo’s mission is to offer experiences that ignite curiosity and ownership in the lives of Mount Druitt youth.

Ian Escandor and Victor Chan
The Esky and Victor Chan duo of Cineverse duo have been working together on film projects for four years. Their love of film has seen them work together on various projects such as web-series, short films, and more.

Vonne Patiag
Vonne Patiag is a filmmaker based in Western Sydney. His credits include Tomgirl (SBS), Halal Gurls (ABC), The Unusual Suspects (SBS) and Here Out West, Sydney Film Festival’s Opening Night Film 2021.

Gerard Cabellon
Gerard Cabellon is an emerging filmmaker from Woodcroft, Western Sydney. In 2019 Gerard directed his debut short film Prodigal Son, which communicated the nuances of immigrant life in Western Sydney among the generations of Filipinos.

Manifold
Manifold are Mount Druitt’s finest. Embracing where they come from, they speak up about social issues through their music.
